Centenary Dance Academy is comprised of five teachers: Inara Svalbe OBE who is the school director as well as Susan Walters, Lucy Flook, Kathryn Lane and Jasmin Freed.
Inara Svalbe O.B.E., A.R.A.D., Solo Seal, DIP A.B.S.
RAD Ballet Graded Syllabus and Vocational Graded Syllabus, Adult Beginner Ballet
Inara performed with the Borovansky Ballet; J.C.Williamson in musical comedy; The Australian Ballet with Nureyev and Fonteyn; Soloist roles with The Royal New Zealand Ballet; Assistant Artistic Director, Principal Dancer, Choreographer and Costume Designer for Ballet Theatre of Queensland working with Phyllis Danaher M.B.E; Dancer, Choreographer and then Artistic Director of Queensland Modern and Contemporary Dance Company; Choreographer for Royal Queensland Theatre Company; Peter Moselle Revues at the Top of the State, and Frank Mesh Revues at The Living Room Theatre Resturant; Founding Director, Choreographer and Costume Designer of The Australian Youth Ballet touring throughout Australia and Great Brittain. The Inara Svalbe School of Ballet was established in 1968; in 1980 Inara was recognised as one of Queensland's leading 45 women in a photographic display by the late Don Taylor; in 1982 she was honoured with the inaugral "Woman of Achievement" Award by the Zonta Club of Australia; in 1985 awarded the Queen's Medal, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.); now in 2001 Inara's work has been honoured in an exhibition at The Queensland Performing Arts Museum.
As well as having a distinguished career behind her, Inara has established wonderful rapport with the children she teaches and is loved by all.
Susan Walters
Junior and Intermediate Jazz, Junior and Advanced Tap
After high school, Susan completed two years full-time at the Brisbane Dance Centre where she gained an Advaced Dimploma of Arts majoring in Dance. She then began her second degree at the Queensland University of Technology, and is currently studying a dual degree combining a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Secondary Education. In 2000 she passed her teaching examination with the Federal Association of Teachers of Dance and is a registered teacher. Susan has been the guest tap instructor at workshops and vacation programmes held by the Youth Ballet Theatre, based in Toowoomba. In 2001 Susan worked alongside Artistic Director Harold Collins MBE as his assistant and rehearsal coach for Youth Ballet Theatre's 2001 productions of Colonial Sketches and Raymonda. Other activities have included choreographing the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge Performance for Brigidine College and providing the choreography for end of year concerts at Saint Francis Xavier Primary School, Goodna for many years.
